Fact or Fiction: The Big 12 Will Lose Multiple Head Coaches After 2024

Welcome to Fact or Fiction Friday. Each Friday, I allow our Facebook and message board fans to ask the most intriguing questions in the Big 12, and I will tell you whether they come true or are set to fail. Now, let’s crack open this week’s list and see what we have in store ahead of Week 13.

The Alamo Bowl Will Feature a Big 12 vs. Big 12 Matchup

Fiction: At first, I thought it may happen due to keeping up with keeping up with weekly bowl projections. In fact, my bowl projections article two weeks ago had a potential Big 12 vs. Big 12 matchup with Colorado and Iowa State. As much as I would like that, it appears that Colorado may be heading to the college football playoff, which would be a million times better than the Alamo Bowl. However, the latest projections included BYU and Washington State, which I think is the most likely scenario at this point. I am not sure which Big 12 team will be in the Alamo Bowl, but I believe Washington State will end up there.

Kansas Will Make A Bowl Game

Fiction: Don’t get me wrong here; Kansas is playing some good football right now. They look like a completely different team in the month of November, and it’s a shame we didn’t get this football team in September and October because if we did, we would be talking about this team fighting for a Big 12 title. Instead, here they are fighting for bowl eligibility with two games left in the season. I love the way Jalon Daniels is playing, and their run game has taken off. They also have some solid weapons at receiver. But they are about to run into the hottest team in the Big 12 this weekend when they face Colorado, and I have the Buffaloes taking down the Jayhawks.

Mike Gundy Will Fire Both Coordinators

Fact: If Mike Gundy wants to keep that rolling contract going, then he should fire both of his coordinators, Kasey Dunn and Bryan Nardo. The offense for Oklahoma State has been a disaster this season. They have arguably the best running back in the country, Ollie Gordon, but they can’t run the ball due to their poor offensive line. And don’t even get me started with their quarterback situation. As bad as the offense is, the defense is ten times worse. They can’t stop anyone on the ground, and the tackling effort is as bad as I have ever seen at this level. Mike Gundy has put his foot in his mouth multiple times this season, and I think he could correct some of the wrongs by making some staff moves.

The Big 12 Will Lose Two or More Head Coaches

Fiction: I could see Deion leaving Colorado after this season because both of his sons will be gone after this year. There have been rumors of him being linked to NFL jobs (Dallas Cowboys), and I think he may end up taking an offer if someone from the NFL is willing to give him a shot at the pro level. The problem is that I don’t see any other schools making a move after this season. Sure, guys like Gus Malzahn and Neal Brown will have hot seats going into 2025, but due to the money owed to them, I have a tough time seeing them get fired. Another name to keep an eye on is Arizona head coach Brent Brennan. There have been rumors about it, but I doubt Arizona will bail on him after one year.

Oklahoma Misses The Big 12

Fact: Is water wet? I mean, has anyone seen the disaster that is going on in Norman? They are sitting at 5-5 right now, with two games left against Alabama and LSU. There’s a good chance they finish 5-7, which would be their worst season in over 25 years. It seems like Brent Venables is making history at Oklahoma but he’s on the wrong side of it. I hope they enjoy that SEC money, though.
