Stan Son provides insight for Friday’s NBA Starting 5 DFS slate.
DraftKings, your paradise of DFS nirvana, has done it again with a new contest called NBA Starting 5. You select one point guard, one shooting guard, one small forward, one power forward, and one center. There is no salary cap. The only stipulation is that you must select players from at least two different teams.
For Thursday’s Starting 5 slate, there are three games.
As for injuries, Joel Embiid, Nikola Jovic, Pelle Larsson and Max Strus are questionable. Josh Richardson is doubtful. Damian Lillard, Jared McCain, Isaac Okoro and Caleb Martin are out. Keep track of all the pertinent injury updates at DK Live.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, PHI is -9.5 over CHA at home with the total at 221.5. CLE is -8 over MIL at home with the total at 224.5. OKC is -2 over MIA on the road with the total at 215.5. Log into DK Sportsbook for the updates.

Point Guard
LaMelo Ball is going to have to carry more of the offensive load with Brandon Miller ruled out. These teams met on Monday and Ball shot 30% from the field. He still put up 47.25 FPTS in only 26 minutes because he grabbed five rebounds, dished out 11 dimes and racked up four steals. He has 70 FPTS upside if everything clicks.
Shooting Guard
Donovan Mitchell is averaging three fewer minutes than last season. Some of that is due to blowouts, but it’s been more by design by Kenny Atkinson. As a result, that has lowered the fantasy ceiling for Mitchell and made the range of outcomes wider. Mitchell can still put up 50 to 60 FPTS on any given night, but he also has six games in the 20s. He still has the highest upside at the position, especially with Brandon Miller ruled out.
Small Forward
Joel Embiid missed Monday’s game against the Hornets and Paul George put up 58.25 FPTS. Friday’s contest is a rematch. Embiid is questionable for this one but I’m assuming that he sits, especially since the 76ers have a back-to-back on Friday and Saturday.
Power Forward
Giannis Antetokounmpo has put up 77.25 and 74 FPTS in the last two games, the most recent against the best defensive team in the league, the Thunder. Cleveland is seventh in defensive efficiency, but Giannis put up 71 FPTS against them earlier in the season. Damian Lillard is out, so it could be easier to load up on Giannis, but he is such a beast that he should still get his.
Center
Isaiah Hartenstein has been exactly what the Thunder have been missing, a big man to protect the paint and not be a zero on offense. For fantasy, he’s been just as good because of the consistency. Hartenstein has put up at least 30 FPTS in all but one game with three over 40 FPTS.
