Stan Son provides insights for the new Starting 5 DFS game.
DraftKings, your paradise of DFS nirvana, has done it again, with a new contest called NBA Starting 5. It’s so easy to play that my dad would have fun with it, and he barely knows how to text me.
You select one point guard, one shooting guard, one small forward, one power forward and one center.
There is no salary cap.
The only stipulation is that you must select players from at least two different teams.
That’s it. EZ PZ.
For Monday’s slate, there are four games.
As for injuries, Stephen Curry, De’Anthony Melton, Ben Simmons and Dejounte Murray are out. Andrew Wiggins is questionable. Keep track of all the pertinent injury updates at DK Live.
DAL, DEN, SAC and UTA are playing the second leg of a back-to-back.
DraftKings Sportsbook has DEN -6 on the road over BKN. The total is 218. MIN is -5 over DAL with a total of 224. SAC is -5.5 on the road at UTA. That total is 234, the highest on the slate. NO is -2.5 over GS with the total at 217. Log into DK Sportsbook for the updates.

Point Guard
Luka Doncic is not only one of the best point guards in the league, but one of the best players in the NBA bar none, for both real-life and fantasy. He averages 1.63 FPTS per minute and stuffs the stat sheet for our heart’s delight. Doncic is a threat to triple-double on any given slate and has the highest floor/ceiling combo. He did play last night and didn’t perform well, shooting only 5-of-22 from the field and 1-of-9 from downtown. I’m going right back to the well because he’s always in play to break the slate.
Shooting Guard
Brandin Podziemski has only played 25 minutes in each of the three games to start the season. But Stephen Curry and De’Anthony Melton have already been ruled out while Andrew Wiggins is questionable. Podziemski will likely play way over 30 minutes and see a massive usage rate bump. Last season, Podziemski put up over 40 FPTS eight times, so it’s within the range of outcomes that he outscores Anthony Edwards.
Small Forward
Buddy Hield has been really good replacing Klay Thompson. Despite playing only 15, 20 and 28 minutes, Hield has scored 22, 27 and eight points, which translated to 31.75, 46.5 and 21 FPTS. As with Podziemski, Hield should see a big minutes boost with all the injuries.
Power Forward
After a less-than-stellar opening game, Julius Randle has bounced back and shown the Minnesota faithful what he’s all about, which is bully defenders down low and get buckets. He’s scored 24 and 33 points over the last two games and put up 46.25 and 41.25 FPTS. The beautiful thing is that he’s played 34, 35 and 36 minutes, and minutes are half the battle.
Center
Victor Wembanyama has overtaken Nikola Jokic in some circles. Not here, my internet friends. Jokic literally does it all and is a threat to triple-double and break the slate by himself. Wembanyama has journey-to-Mars potential, but there are still holes in his game, and while he can dominate the blocks, points and rebounds categories, he falls short in assists and shooting efficiency. Jokic has put up at least 60 FPTS in all three games. The only possible bugaboo is that Jokic played last night.
