DraftKings Value Picks

C Mark Williams ($6,000)

After being on the shelf for over a year, Mark Williams is finally starting to realize his potential. The seven-footer has had an inspiring yet disappointing start to his time as a pro. Since coming out of Duke, Williams hasn’t played more than 45 games in a season. Various lower body injuries have sidelined the big man, but when he’s been on the floor, he has shown flashes of a modern rim runner.

Williams has scored at least 16 points in three of his last four outings, with two double-doubles. He looks comfortable in the post but flourishes as a hyper-athletic roll threat who can catch lobs around the rim. He needs to take some more leaps defensively, but his pogo stick hops allow him to climb the ladder to reject shots around the cup. Williams is still a project, but the absence of LaMelo Ball increases his offensive opportunities.

He gets a tough draw against Cleveland, which plays elite paint defense. Even with the unfavorable matchup, Williams is efficient and confident, which is often enough to produce results. Take advantage of his cheap pre-assigned salary before it shoots up.

PG/SG Dennis Schroder ($5,400)

It’s been a few weeks since Golden State acquired Dennis Schroder, and there’s finally starting to be a return on investment. The combo guard was having a phenomenal start to the season in Brooklyn. He was the lead ball handler and primary facilitator, reminiscent of his position on the German national team. He was a bit too effective for a team trying to capture the Flagg and joined a squad trying to contend.

His role with the Warriors is simple: help alleviate Steph Curry’s burden. Schroeder is a high-level backup offensive engine but has struggled in the NBA at points when taking a back seat. He’s looking more secure in his process, and that’s translated to the stat sheet. Schroeder had 34 fantasy points on Thursday, his best mark since December 8. He gets to battle a Sacramento bunch that hasn’t played defense in years. Buy the bounceback before he elevates out of this price range.
