SG Stephon Castle, San Antonio Spurs vs. UTA ($4,900)
Although the Spurs will be without Victor Wembanyama on Thursday, there’s still plenty of reasons to tune in. Chief among them is rookie Stephon Castle, who’s begun to find his groove after a rocky first few weeks as a pro. The UConn product has emerged as San Antonio’s second-best playmaker behind Chris Paul, scoring 14.4 points and dishing out 5.4 assists over his past seven games.
While Castle still has room to grow, it’s clear that he’s become more comfortable with life in the NBA. Tonight’s matchup against the Jazz, without the ball-dominant presence of Wembanyama, gives the young guard a chance to make a major impact. Utah’s perimeter defense is one of the league’s worst, allowing the fourth-most assists (27.8 APG) and the fifth-most points (118.9 PPG) to opponents. The fourth overall pick in last year’s draft has the talent and opportunity to deliver some serious value for your fantasy lineups.
PF/C Grant Williams, Charlotte Hornets vs. DET ($5,000)
At this point in his six-year NBA career, Grant Williams is a known commodity. The 6’6 forward typically offers up solid defense, plenty of hustle, and sneaky-good shooting. That’s been the case so far this season, with averages of 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists through fourteen games.
Normally positioned as a wing, injuries down low have forced the Hornets to lean on Williams as a small-ball center. The veteran has performed admirably, putting up 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 32.2 minutes of play over his last five games. With a sizeable workload on a Hornets team lacking reliable role players, it’s a shock that Williams is only the tenth-most expensive center on the board. For those looking to spend big at another position, this is definitely someone to target.
