Both Capital High and Helena High reached the state tournament this season, splitting their crosstown series. Carroll College enters its second year under Head Coach Dan Pearson.

Pearson highlighted the importance of recruiting local talent. “When you have to go out and across the country and find somebody and sell them on the school, it doesn’t have the same staying power as kids who grew up going to these games,” Pearson said. “We got five guys who love the school already. And that’s a big deal. When you’re talking about trying to keep someone for 4 or 5 years.”

Lieberg expressed enthusiasm about the local aspect of their commitments. “It’s really good to get local kids in because it brings in, like, people from the community to watch,” Lieberg stated. “Yeah. And just, like, builds up a strong foundation for the town. And I think that’s just awesome.”

“It’s pretty cool. Yeah. We haven’t, Helena doesn’t really send a bunch of kids to play college basketball too often. So to see five this year kind of just shows the amount of talent we have,” Belzer said.
