IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Former NFL and University of Iowa football player Tim Dwight is helping Iowa City fit its Bike Library with solar panels.
It’s all part of the city’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. It wants to retrofit 10% of all buildings with solar panels by 2025, and 90% by 2050.
The Bike Library is at the forefront of the trend.
Tim Dwight is working with Solar by Brandt, who’s fitting the building. Dwight been an outspoken solar advocate since leaving the NFL.
“There’s so many great things it adds to our society. Our kids depend on this. Pollution is real, climate change is real, and this is a big answer to that solution,” said Dwight.
While the panels are installed, they’re not plugged in quite yet, as some changes need to be made to the electrical system in the building.
The Bike Library’s director said the panels will be working within the coming months.
