Fox Sports college football analyst R.J. Young predicts who Ohio State’s QB won’t be, teases transfer

With Ohio State moving on from quarterback Will Howard, the Buckeyes are searching for their new signal-caller in an attempt to push for a repeat national championship bid.

In doing so, Fox Sports analyst R.J. Young attempted to dissect whether Lincoln Kienholz would last through spring ball given Ohio State’s new-look room.

“Does he want to go back up somewhere else, or does he want to stick it out?” Young asked. “I honestly look at him, and I say, ‘Dude, you could probably go torch someone if you just went to Tulane, Tulsa, or Boise State, for that matter, right? “You keep going down the line on the Sacramento State with Brennan Marion [their head coach]. There are places for him to go to show out. I don’t know that Ohio State is going to be that place.”

Buckeyes coach Ryan Day has been vocal about the importance of the position since Howard’s departure.

“They’re young,” Day said of his group this past Friday. “We need them to be tough. We need them to be leaders. We have a leader. Long way to go on it. Don’t have any evaluation on it now. Gonna be a big spring for those guys.”

Day added each has a chance to start, even though the one (without naming him) who is the most highly-touted is Julian Sayin.

“We have some good quarterbacks in the system, and, you know, I shared with all of them that you know now, this was the week leading up to the national championship game that you know you had an opportunity to watch,” Day said. “And so you got to utilize that because that’s exactly what we’re looking for in a leader here at quarterback.”

Whoever Day decides to start is likely to be met with scrutiny. Either way, the stakes couldn’t be any higher as the Buckeyes attempt to maintain high expectations.
