Fresno City College baseball, softball advance through state playoffs

The Fresno City Rams saw state playoff action at the baseball and softball stadiums on campus Saturday afternoon.

Over at the softball diamond, former Fresno State coach Linda Garza guided the Rams to redemption in her second season at the helm at Fresno City.

Facing the same Cosumnes River program that eliminated FCC last year, the Rams fell just short in Game 2 on Saturday but bounced back in the elimination Game 3, 2-0.

Central HS grad Sara Barbosa pitched a complete game shutout to send Fresno City (30-13) to the CCCAA Super Regional. A three-game series at No. 1 seed West Valley (39-3) awaits.

The No. 3-seeded baseball Rams routed Monterey Peninsula, 10-2, to advance to their own Super Regional, which they will get to host.

No. 6 San Mateo and No. 15 Marin travel to Fresno for a double-elimination, round-robin format, going from May 8-10.

Watch the highlights and hear Fresno City baseball head coach Mitch Karraker explain what it will take to make it past the Super Regional.
