From teammates to conference foes; Burley’s Kendrix Knobbe and Mack Jensen sign to play college football

BURLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — From the Great Basin to the Frontier Conference.

Burley’s Kendrix Knobbe and Mack Jensen signed Tuesday afternoon to continue their football careers at the collegiate level.

Knobbe will play for Rocky Mountain (Montana), while Jensen will play for Montana Western. Both schools are NAIA and compete in the Frontier Conference.

For Knobbe, playing college ball has always been the dream.

“It’s a little nerve-racking, but a dream come true, really,” Knobbe said. “I’ve dreamed about this since I was a little kid to play college ball, and now, since I’ll get the opportunity, I’ll make the best of it and go show what I can do.”

Knobbe played for two full years as a wide receiver, which was the best thing for his game.

He lit it up his senior season, leading 5A with 946 receiving yards (second overall in the state) and had 52 receptions for 11 touchdowns.

Knobbe was named a 5A All-State First-Team and Selection and was First Team in the Great Basin Conference.

He’s excited to join the Bears.

“It felt like home on my visit, Knobbe said. “I loved the coaching staff, and you could feel the brotherhood within the team.”

Knobbe told KMVT he wants to focus on his confidence heading off to college and improve his speed and strength as a wide receiver.

For Jensen, he’s off to the 2x defending Frontier Champions in Montana Western.

Jensen was an honorable mention Great Basin quarterback during the 2024-2025 season despite suffering a season-ending injury.

He dislocated his kneecap only four weeks into the season.

Being away from the game made him appreciate the sport that much more.

“I just wanted to get back to playing. I was in the dumps and upset for a little but now I just wanted to go up there (Montana Western) and play some ball,” Jensen explained to KMVT. “All those practices you hate going to, suddenly you start missing. You wish you could go back and have one more practice and one more game with the boys (Burley).”

The Bobcats finished 3-6 (2-3 GBC) in the 2024-2025 season.

Montana Western began talking with Jensen during his junior season and felt a connection with the coaching staff.

After his injury during his senior year, the Bulldogs stayed committed to Jensen.

“They wanted me, and that’s the connection I wanted with a team,” Jensen said. “They coach how I wanted to be coaches, which is the mix of being a little hot at times but also sometimes calm.”

The two will square off for years as they compete in the same conference.

“I’ve sent many kids to play college ball, but not all of them make it. When you get to that level, it’s like a job,” Burley head coach Cameron Andersen said. “These two have shown resilience and response to conflict and adversity, which has been above and beyond and has allowed them to be in this position today.”
