“Full time tiktoker, part time basketball player” fans baffled at Jared McCain dancing on crutches after season-ending injury

Even before Jared McCain was drafted into the NBA, he was already a familiar name among basketball fans thanks to his TikTok presence. Despite undergoing surgery for a torn meniscus, the Philadelphia 76ers rookie continues to make waves on the platform.

Earlier this month, the Philadelphia 76ers announced that McCain had torn his left meniscus and would require surgery. Over the weekend, McCain shared that he expects to miss the rest of the season due to the injury.

Nevertheless, he appears to be maintaining a positive outlook. In a recent TikTok, McCain danced to Naughty Boy and Sam Smith’s “La La La” while using crutches, sparking reactions from fans.

“Full time tiktoker, part time basketball player,” one said.

“This dude is probably so happy that he has now a lot of time to do TikTok videos,” another said.

Some fans, however, expressed concern that Jared McCain’s dancing might worsen his condition.

“N***a just can’t sit down & recover,” one said.

“Nah he gotta sit tf down man he doing too much now,” another added.

Other fans shared mixed emotions:

“At least he’s happy cos I’m damn sure not,” one said.

“Thank the Basketball Gods for this positive ray of light,” another added.

Nick Nurse expects ‘long process’ of recovery for Jared McCain

Before his injury, Jared McCain had been one of the standout rookies in the league, averaging 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 46.0%, including 38.3% from 3-point range.

76ers coach Nick Nurse described McCain’s recovery as a “long process” and remained uncertain about a timeline for his return.

“I don’t really know (when he’ll be back),” Nurse said. “I think it’s a pretty long process to get back. We did get news out of the surgery yesterday that things went really well and they are very optimistic. But I don’t know what that means timeline-wise.”

The 76ers have struggled with injuries this season, dealing with setbacks to Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey. Now, McCain’s season-ending injury compounds their misfortune.

As of Sunday, the team holds a 9-17 record, placing 12th in the Eastern Conference and sitting 1.5 games out of a Play-In Tournament spot.
