Garrett Crochet Fired Up To Welcome ‘Baseball Rat’ Alex Bregman

Count Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet among those who are thrilled to hear Alex Bregman reportedly will join him in Boston.

“Couldn’t be more fired up,” Crochet told reporters in Fort Myers, Fla. on Thursday morning, as seen on NESN. “That the front office has the same goal that we as the players have, to make the playoffs and make it deep.”

Crochet texted Bregman late Wednesday night after he saw the news. Crochet, who the Red Sox acquired in an offseason trade, and Bregman represent Boston’s two biggest moves this offseason.

“I think you look at the intangibles, and he carries them all,” Crochet said. “I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about him, just about him being an absolute baseball rat. It’s a guy who loves the game, who works hard and obviously his pedigree speaks for itself. He’s won a couple of World Series, and the Gold Glove last year shows he’s still at the top of the game.”

The reported Bregman signing changes the narrative for the Red Sox. Boston became one of the biggest offseason winners with the reported addition, which ESPN graded as a favorable “needle-mover.”

Crochet agrees.

“The goals are the same and maybe the expectations change a little bit, but we couldn’t more fired up to have him join us here,” he said. “It’s exciting. Like I said when the trade went through, this is one of the best divisions in baseball, and you’ve gotta have a solid team to be able to tread water, and I think we’re doing more than treading with this acquisition.”

Bregman reportedly turned down multiple other offers, including a long-term deal from the Detroit Tigers. The veteran clearly wanted to be in Boston and Crochet and others are thrilled it played out that way.
