Kolby Branch on Georgia’s offense: ‘We respect everybody, fear nobody’
Kolby Branch says Georgia’s offense is more versatile this year and ready to take on any challenge as they prepare for their SEC series in Gainesville
Georgia baseball hits the SEC road for the first time this season to play rival Florida.
The three-game series that starts Friday follows a 13-game homestand for the No. 5 Bulldogs (21-2, 2-1 SEC) under second-year coach Wes Johnson, whose team took two of three from Kentucky in its SEC opening series.
“Just make that field your home field,” shortstop Kolby Branch said of the team’s mindset playing at Condron Family Ballpark. “Wes talked about that and how we go in there and don’t be looking around the crowds, don’t be treating it like it’s an away series. It’s a home series. You go take advantage of every opportunity and go play like you’re playing at Foley.”
The No. 11 Gators (18-5, 0-3) were swept at Tennessee last weekend.
Florida won two of three games against Georgia last season in Athens.
Georgia clubbed 11 home runs last weekend, most of any SEC team. Florida hit .216 with 7 runs scored in Knoxville. The Bulldogs had an 8.67 ERA with 20 walks and hit 12 batters.
Johnson has tapped Brian Curley to start his first game as a Bulldog in game two.
“I’m kind of looking forward to the hostility of that environment,” he said.
