What’s next for Jan Jensen in Year 2 as Iowa women’s basketball coach?
The head Hawkeye has a first pitch scheduled at Wrigley Field, for starters, in August. She also likes the pieces on her 2025-26 roster.
Iowa women’s basketball coach Jan Jensen recently sat down with Des Moines Register columnist Chad Leistikow for an exclusive 90-minute interview, discussing a wide range of topics involving the Hawkeyes program.
Jensen is embarking on Year 2 as Iowa’s head coach after serving as Lisa Bluder’s top assistant for decades. The Hawkeyes finished 23-11 in Jensen’s first year and reached the round-of-32 of the NCAA Tournament.
Among the topics Jensen touched on during the interview:
- How the team rallied and finished strong after hitting rock bottom in January with a five-game losing streak.
- Jensen’s frustrations with the new realities of college basketball, brought on by the transfer-portal explosion.
- Jensen is more protective than ever of what she and Bluder built at Iowa. “My culture is not for sale,” she said.
- What fans can expect from the Hawkeyes’ 2025-26 roster.
