WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The Jefferson Community College women’s basketball team is heading to Minnesota on a business trip

Seedings and pairings were announced for the upcoming Women’s NJCAA basketball tournament on Wednesday.

And the Region 3 Division 3 champion JCC Cannoneers received a 10 seed. Coach Jeff Wileys team will meet the 7th seed Community College of Rhode Island in opening round action March 12th at 4 pm in Rochester, Minnesota.

A rematch of the consolation game of the Onondaga Classic, a game that JCC lost 77-43 back on November 10th.

“Being a 10 seed, it’s not bad. Just to be in the tournament was really exciting, winning the regionals here. You know, we did play CCRI early when our freshmen were freshmen. We played without Kori with a severe injury. Hopefully, we get some revenge here with this matchup,” said Jeff Wiley.

The players and coaches have the benefit of knowing what to expect with this being their 2nd straight trip to nationals.

JCC hoping for a deeper run this time around.

“We’ll definitely need to work together. We’re gonna need to have good team chemistry while we’re out there. We’re gonna need to share the ball well and make our shots definitely. We need to be on our A game to win these games. But I think that we’re up for the challenge,” said Kori Nichols.

“Same thing that we just did over the weekend. We had great energy the whole weekend, played some of the best basketball we played all season long. If we can keep that up, then I don’t think we’ll have any issues,” said LaKaiya Butcher.

JCC looking to add some more hardware to the trophy case as they take part in March Madness.
