Hollywood actor, Grammy-winning rock legend slam ESPN’s Pat McAfee for NBA introduction

Ben Stiller called the comments “weird,” and John Mellencamp was “embarrassed” as a result of Pat McAfee’s comments to an arena full of people prior to Game 4 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference playoff series between the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers.

ESPN’s McAfee was given the mic before the NBA game to fire up the Indiana crowd. He called out celebrity Knicks fans Spike Lee, Ben Stiller and Timothée Chalamet.

“Spike Lee is here. Ben Stiller is here. Timothée Chalamet is here,” McAfee told the crowd. “Let’s send these sons of bitches back to New York with their ears bleeding.”

While the crowd seemed pumped, Mellencamp, and Indiana native, was not.

“The Knicks/Pacers games have been very entertaining for anyone who likes basketball or sports,” the “Hurts So Good” singer posted on X in a statement. “I attended Game 4 in Indianapolis. ‘Hoosier Hospitality’… I was embarrassed when somebody under whose direction I don’t know called out some of the people who had made the trip from New York to support their team – and in turn, support our team. The audience booed these people.

“I’d say that was not Hoosier Hospitality. One could say it’s poor, poor sportsmanship. I was not proud to be a Hoosier, and I lived here my entire life. On behalf of most Hoosiers, I would like to apologize for our poor behavior. I’m sure the Pacers had nothing to do with this smackdown.”

Stiller, the actor and producer of “Severance,” also took to X, suggesting the call out was “weird.

Stiller took a few hits on social media and was told to lighten up. He said it was all good, but insisted that type of call out wouldn’t happen in New York.

McAfee, for his part, replied to Mellencamp’s post by letting everyone know he was “somebody.”
