How many college baseball teams go to Omaha?

Things haven’t gone the way the Nebraska baseball team hoped they would. Though things are looking up after a series win over No. 5 oregon state. There’s talk again about a postseason again. And that means that it’s time to once again consider the question, how many college baseball teams go to Omaha?

The answer to this question shouldn’t be one that is all that difficult for Nebraska baseball fans. Or people living in Omaha. When talking about how many college baseball teams go to Omaha, the answer is that eight teams get the nod.

How many college baseball teams go to Omaha?

The CWS is essentially the Elite Eight of a larger NCAA Baseball Tournament that actually has 64 teams playing in the regionals, then the Super Regionals, and finally the College World Series.

This year, those eight teams will head to Omaha on June 14 and start the final run to the National Title. Last year, all eight teams were from either the ACC or SEC. Tennessee, Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina State, Florida and Texas A&M played each other with the Volunteers eventually knocking off the Aggies for the top spot.

For Nebraska baseball fans, it’s also a hope that the Huskers will be among those college baseball teams that go to Omaha, since the College World Series would essentially offer home field advantage.

The Cornhuskers have made the College World Series three times. Under former head coach Dave Van Horn, they went in 2001, 2002 and 2005. Last year, they made it to the regional, but were knocked off there by Florida.

This year, Nebraska baseball fans hope when someone asks about how many college baseball teams go to Omaha, the Huskers will be one of the eight.
