How many college baseball teams go to Omaha?

With the college baseball season under way, the Notre Dame baseball team is just like so many other programs. The goal is the to get to Omaha at the end of the year. The get to the College World Series. Of course, not every team get to go there. It is a step in the larger NCAA baseball tournament. So how many college baseball teams go to Omaha?

The answer to that question is just that eight teams get to go to Omaha to play for the National Title. Those eight teams are the best of the best. They’ve played their way through the regionals and then the super regionals. And then on June 14, 2025 they’re kicking off the College World Series.

How many college baseball teams go to Omaha?

Those eight teams are obviously the winners of the super regionals. In 2024 those eight teams were Tennessee, Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina State, Florida and Texas A&M.

In other words, the entire field of the College World Series was made up of the ACC and SEC. That’s hardly a surprise these days. Those two conferences are the power of the sport. However, usually there is at least one team from another conference.

The Big 12 generally gets one in there as well.

While it seems far longer than it was, the Notre Dame baseball team got to be one of those eight teams just a few years ago. They went in 2022 and were knocked out in two games with an elimination bracket loss to Texas A&M.
