Triston Casas’ candid comments about the Red Sox’s top prospects created a stir down in Fort Myers, Fla., but they don’t seem too fazed.
Casas frankly felt Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer weren’t ready to make the Opening Day roster. The Boston first baseman enters his fourth big-league season, but the 25-year-old’s worked closely with the younger players on the roster and is close friends with some of the team’s top prospects.
It might have been why Mayer wasn’t feeling too sorry about himself.
“To me, my job is in between the lines and I love the work I’m getting here, I’m learning a lot,” Mayer told the Boston Herald’s Gabrielle Starr. “Tristan and I are good. He said what he said, and we move on.”
Anthony offered a similar response, and Vaughn Grissom, who was indirectly mentioned when Casas noted Alex Bregman should start at second base, also didn’t take his teammate’s comments personally.

Manager Alex Cora also wasn’t too concerned about Casas’ candor, and it could spark a higher level of competition as Boston gets Grapefruit League play started.
