The Lightning are coming off their biggest win of the season by far beating the Utah Hockey Club 8-0 on Thursday. Tampa won by that lopsided margin with just 21 shots. Jake Guentzel and Oliver Bjorkstrand both scored two goals but neither earned any stars of the game. The first star went to Ryan McDonagh who notched two assists. Nikita Kucherov put up four points with a goal and three assists and goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy pitched a shutout with 25 saves earning the third star. Utah goalie Karel Vejmelka had a night to quickly forget giving up four goals on 11 shots before getting pulled. Can’t get much more efficient than that. The Lightning has a great opportunity to even this series tonight with all this momentum.
The Islanders are coming off a 5-2 loss against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. Casey Cizikas scored a shorthanded goal to even the score and DeAngelo put New York ahead just four minutes later in the second period. But Vancouver went on a run scoring four unanswered goals. Cizikas was the bright spot of the night for the Islanders scoring the goal and adding the assist to DeAngelo’s goal to earn the second star of the game. New York will have to dig a lot deeper to keep up with the Tampa Bay attack.
