
The No. 2 ranked college baseball team in the nation, LSU, will travel to Austin, Texas, this weekend to take on the No. 8-ranked team in the country, Texas, at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Friday for the first game of a three-game series between these rival SEC teams. The No. 2-ranked Tigers head into this series with a 21-1 record overall and a perfect 3-0 record against other SEC teams. Their only loss this season came in the middle of a three-game series against non-conference opponent Omaha by just one run, 5-4.

In their last eight games, they have swept North Alabama, won two single games against Xavier and New Orleans, and swept their first SEC team, Missouri, at home. Jared Jones, LSU’s starting first baseman, is batting .424 with a .812 slugging percentage. The junior has a team-high eight home runs and 34 RBIs with four stolen bases in 85 at-bats.
The No. 8-ranked Longhorns are 17-2 overall this season with a perfect 3-0 record against conference teams as well in the SEC. They lost their very first game of the season against the ACC’s Louisville before going on a 17-game win streak. They lost their last solo game against UTSA earlier this week 8-7 after sweeping their first SEC opponent, Mississippi State in three games last weekend.
Rylan Galvan leads Texas in batting this season. The junior catcher is batting .314 with a .784 slugging percentage. He has a team-high seven home runs with 19 RBIs in 51 at-bats. He is followed by Ethan Mendoza, who has four home runs and 16 RBIs in 69 at-bats while batting .406.
