On this final Sunday of 2024, Peacock has a packed slate of four men’s college basketball headlined by the UPenn Quakers taking on the Penn State Nittany Lions. These two Keystone State insitutions are just 150 miles apart, and Penn State has won the last four meetings between them. Penn State is off to a 10-2 start, the program’s best record through the 12 games since the 2019-20 season. All 10 wins for the Nittany Lions have been by double digits, and head coach Mike Rhoades is just one win away from his 400th career victory. It’s the final non-conference game of the season for Penn State, who leads the Big Ten in points per game (88.4 — t-6th in the nation). They’ll be back in Big Ten play against Northwestern on January 2nd.
The Northwestern Wildcats will also be in action today, taking on the Northeastern Huskies at 1:30pm ET. It’s the first meeting between the two schools since 1993, when Northwestern beat Northeastern 92-65. The 9-3 Wildcats are on a three-game winning streak, most recently dominating DePaul 84-64 on December 21st. The key to success for Northwestern will likely lie with powerhouse pair Nick Martinelli and Brooks Barnhizer, who’ve led the way offensively for the Wildcats this season.
