The top and the bottom of the Mountain West leaderboard will meet on Friday as UNLV hosts Nevada in college baseball action.
The last place UNLV Rebels will host the first place Nevada Wolf Pack on Friday to begin a Mountain West series at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Rebels bring a four-game losing streak into the weekend and an overall record of 14-14, but the team has struggled in conference play and are currently 2-7 against Mountain West opponents. The team’s most recent game was played against California Baptist on Monday and resulted in a big 19-3 loss in seven innings. Jordan Hanson took the loss on the mound, his first of the season, after giving up a grand slam in the first inning after walking the first three batters. Dwight Allen II went 2-for-3 at the plate and finished with two RBI while Dean Toigo was responsible for the team’s only other run with a first inning homer.

The Wolf Pack brings an overall record of 17-11 and a conference record of 6-3 into Friday night’s game for a spot at the top of the Mountain West standings. Nevada also suffered a non-conference loss this week as the team hosted UC Davis and fell in a 12-6 defeat. Billy Ham and Jacob Doyle led the offense with two RBI each as Ham hit an RBI double in the second and an RBI single in the seventh and Doyle hit a two run homer to center field in the fourth. Ryan Oakes earned his first loss of the season after giving up four earned runs in 0.1 innings on the mound after relieving Jame Cummings.
Nevada and UNLV have med a total of 92 times in their storied history and the Wolf Pack currently holds a 52-40 lead in the all-time series. When the teams met last season in their Mountain West series, the Rebels earned the series victory with an 11-7 win in game two and a 10-7 win in game three.
