Two-Minute Drill: Panthers face Hurricanes in ECF; FHSAA softball finals
The Florida Panthers are one step away from making into their third straight Stanley Cup Finals; FHSAA softball finals begin Tuesday, May 20.
The Florida Panthers continue to roll on the road, crushing the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 Tuesday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final.
Improving their record to 6-2 away from home, the Panthers tied the 2022 Colorado Avalance for the most goals (38) through eight road games in NHL postseason history. Five different players lit the lamp for Florida in Game 1: Carter Verhaeghe, Aaron Ekblad, A.J. Greer, Sam Bennett and Eetu Luostarinen.
Florida capitalized with the man advantage twice against Carolina’s top-ranked penalty kill, a unit that stopped 28 of 30 power plays in the first two rounds. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 31 shots in goal for the Panthers.
Carolina has now lost 13 consecutive games in the conference final round, a streak that dates back to 2009. Sebastian Aho and Jackson Blake had the Hurricanes’ goals, and Seth Jarvis notched two assists in defeat.
Panthers winger Brad Marchand was ejected in the third period following a scrap with Carolina’s Shayne Gostisbehere, a Pembroke Pines native. Marchand took a run at Gostisbehere in the Carolina zone, and the defenseman intentionally shot the puck at him in retaliation, igniting a fight.
Marchand received a four-minute double minor and a 10-minute misconduct, and Gostisbehere took a two-minute minor for roughing. It is unlikely the NHL will administer any further discipline beyond a fine.
