
Tennessee and South Carolina will play the final game of their SEC series on Sunday afternoon in Columbia.
In an SEC battle on Sunday, the final game of a three game series has the South Carolina Gamecocks hosting the top-ranked Tennessee Volunteers at Founders Park. Tennessee won the first two games by scores of 11-7 and 7-5, respectively. With Saturday’s win, the Volunteers improved to 25-2 on the season and 7-1 in SEC play for a spot in third place in the conference standings. The team was led offensively by first baseman Andrew Fischer who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, both of which came from a two-run shot to center field in the eighth inning. Reese Chapman only had one hit on the day, but he made it count with a three-run homer to open the scoring in the fourth inning. Cannon Peebles rounded out the home run hitters with a two-run shot in the ninth. Earning the win for the Volunteers was Nate Snead in relief with 3.2 innings pitched, allowing three hits and one earned run.

The Gamecocks dropped to 17-11 on the season and 1-7 in SEC play, putting them in 12th place in the conference standings. While the Volunteers’ offense was powered by three home runs, Jase Woita was the only Gamecock with an extra-base hit, smashing a solo home run to left field in the fourth inning. From there, Nathan Hall, Beau Hollins, Jordan Carrion and Henry Kaczmar each brought runs in, but it wasn’t enough to get past Tennessee. Jarvis Evans Jr. pitched six complete innings for South Carolina, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out five. Brandon Stone came in for relief and took the loss while pitching three innings, allowing four hits and four runs.
South Carolina will face Presbyterian on Tuesday for a midweek non-conference meeting while the Volunteers will host in-state opponent Tennessee Tech on Tuesday.
