Top-ranked Tennessee will host Texas A&M in a weekend SEC series as the teams meet in Knoxville on Friday for the opener.
The No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers host the Texas A&M Aggies on Friday for the teams’ series opener at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Aggies come into Friday’s game with an overall record of 14-14 and a conference record of 1-8, putting them in 15th place in the SEC standings. The team did find success in its most recent outing with a 21-1 seven inning mercy against Incarnate Word on Tuesday. The Aggies scored seven runs in the second inning and an additional 11 runs in the third inning to jump out to a commanding lead. Blake Binderup hit a three-run homer in the third and Jace LaViolette followed with a grand slam, advancing the score to 7-0. In the third, Ben Royo hit a three-run home run and LaViolette hit another home run, pushing the score to 13-0. The next four runs were scored with either a bases loaded walk or a wild pitch. Gavin Lyons earned the win, pitching four innings, allowing one hit and striking out 12, improving his record to 2-0.

The Volunteers come into the weekend with an overall record of 27-2 and an 8-1 conference record which has them sitting in third place in the SEC standings. The last game for Tennessee resulted in a 7-1 win against in-state opponent Tennessee Tech. The Volunteers started the game with two two-run home runs coming from designated hitter Blake Grimmer followed by Dean Curley. Dalton Bargo scored in the third inning on a wild pitch to extend the team’s lead while Chris Newstrom hit the third and final two-run home run in the seventh inning, moving the score to 7-1. The Volunteers used 11 different pitchers in the game and Michael Sharman earned the win after pitching in the second inning.
The last 24 meetings between the two programs has an even 12-12 series record. The last game between the two teams was a 6-5 win for Tennessee in June of 2024.
