The Florida Panthers go for the season-series sweep against the Utah Hockey Club in this Friday finale.
The Utah Hockey Club tries to avoid losing three in a row but it will have a tough path doing it facing off against the defending champs on Friday night on the road. The Florida Panthers are in a tie for first in the Atlantic division with the Toronto Maple Leafs with 89 points coming into this one. Florida will be the big favorite with a -250 line in its favor. Utah is playing for its playoff life but is going to be a monumental climb as it is 10 points behind the St. Louis Blues for the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference standings. It doesn’t help that they will be playing on back-to-back nights either.

It certainly doesn’t help that the Utah Hockey Club is coming off a humbling 8-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday. Tampa Bay scored eight goals on just 21 shots. Jake Guentzel and Oliver Bjorkstrand both scored two goals with Ryan McDonagh earning the first star with two assists. Nikita Kucherov put up four points with a goal and three assists and goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy pitched a shutout with 25 saves earning the third star. Utah goalie Karel Vejmelka had a night to quickly forget giving up four goals on 11 shots before getting pulled. Tampa Bay evened the series at one game apiece with the win.
Florida will be fresh last playing on Sunday when they beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in a shootout. Aleksander Barkov scored the game-winner in the shootout period and goalie Sergei Bobrovsky stopped all three attempts he faced. The Panthers won the series 2-1 against Pittsburgh. It was a great comeback considering Florida was down 3-1 after Sam Reinhart scored the first goal of the game. He scored again on the powerplay in the second to get back within one goal. Anton Lundell scored the game-tying goal late in the third period. Don’t expect this game to be as close.
