The No. 19 Oklahoma Sooners will host the No. 17 Vanderbilt Commodores on Friday night as the teams begin an SEC series at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners are currently in 11th place in the conference standings with an SEC record of 5-7 and an overall record of 23-9. The team is on a four-game losing streak with the most recent being a 9-1 loss to Dallas Baptist on Tuesday at home. Reid Hensley was credited with the loss on the mound, dropping to 3-1 on the season after giving up two earned runs and throwing out four batters in 2.1 innings of work in his start. Dawson Willis was responsible for the team’s lone run of the game after hitting an RBI single in the seventh, but it was too little, too late for the Sooners as they were already trailing by nine.

The Commodores are on the other end of the spectrum this week and have won five games in a row to improve to 25-8 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The team’s most recent game was played against Dayton on Tuesday and resulted in a 9-2 victory at home. Mac Rose led the Vanderbilt offense after going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Rose hit a two-run single in the third before getting walked in the eighth to bring home Mike Mancini. Jacob Humphrey and Brodie Johnston also assisted in the win with two RBI each. Ethan McElvain improved to 1-2 on the season with the win after pitching for two innings and throwing three strikeouts while giving up one earned one.
Vanderbilt and Oklahoma have only met twice in their history and the Sooners have won both games with the most recent being an 11-10 victory back in 2008.
