Virginia Tech and Wake Forest will close out their ACC series on Sunday as the Hokies look to get the brooms out and pull off the sweep in Winston-Salem.
The Virginia Tech Hokies will close out a road trip to Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Sunday as they take on the No. 16 Wake Forest Demon Deacons at David F. Couch Ballpark in the teams’ ACC series finale. The Demon Deacons lost the first two games (13-2, 11-8) and will look to avoid the sweep at home. With the losses, Wake Forest dropped to 20-8 overall and 7-4 in conference play which puts them in fourth place in the ACC standings. Saturday’s 11-8 loss was credited to Matthew Dallas who gave up seven earned runs in two innings of play, striking out just one batter in his time on the mound. Kade Lewis led the offense, going 2-for-3 with three RBI while Javar Williams and Matt Scannell each finished the game with two RBI. While the Demon Deacons got the bats going, they will need to find an answer on defense to put a stop to the Hokies’ hard hitters.

The Hokies will look to keep climbing the ACC standings with a win where they currently sit in eighth place with an overall record of 19-8 and a conference record of 6-5. The team has now won four straight games and hope to build on that with a victory in the finale on Sunday. Garrett Michel and Ben Watson each finished Saturday’s 11-8 win with two hits apiece and combined for five RBI while Henry Cooke added another two RBI to spread the scoring around. Treyson Hughes and Clay Grady also contributed with one RBI each. Andrew Sentlinger improved to 2-3 on the season with two innings of work in which he only gave up one earned run while striking out three batters.
