The Demon Deacons are currently in fifth place in the ACC standings with a conference record of 9-6 and an overall record of 24-10. The team brings a three-game win streak into the weekend after winning the final two games of its series against Florida State last weekend and then beating UNC Greensboro 6-3 in a mid-week matchup. Troy Dressler earned his first win of the season after pitching one inning and striking out one batter while giving up zero hits. Austin Hawke and Matt Conte powered the offense, each going 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBI each. Both Hawke and Conte fired two-run homers over the fence in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.
Wake Forest and UNC have met a total of 41 times in their history and the Tar Heels currently hold a 25-16 lead in the all-time series. The teams met four times last year and the Tar Heels pulled off the sweep during regular season, but it was the Demon Deacons who pulled off the win when it counted in the conference tournament, winning 9-5 to end the Tar Heels’ tournament run.
