“If I could say anything to the nation, it would be just to hug your babies tight, because you don’t know if it will be the last time you do it.” 2x Play of the Game. Once in August of 24′ and the next in September of 24′. Add to that the #39 ranking on Division 5A-2 and #6 on SA-2 Region I. If you ask anyone, they’d tell you that Austin Metcalf was well on his way to accomplishing his dream of collegiate-level football. For all we know, he could’ve been the next Jack Anderson coming out of Frisco.
But often, the question “what is and what could’ve been?” leads to a rather unfortunate answer. April 2nd, 2025: The whole internet was instantly flooded with updates on a reported stabbing that took place at the UIL District 11-5A championship track meet. Police responded to a 10 a.m. call, which highlighted the altercation between 2 students. Here, the victim, Austin Metcalf, was stabbed in the chest by the perpetrator, Karmelo Anthony. Things escalated further when Austin tried to grab and move Anthony out and was then reportedly stabbed in the chest. “Austin grabbed Anthony to tell him to move and Anthony pulled out … a black knife and stabbed Austin once in the chest,” – the police report detailed. When the officers arrived on the scene and marked Anthony as the “alleged” suspect, the 17-year-old clarified that he was the one to stab Austin: “I’m not alleged, I did it.”
Police have reported that Anthony claimed the entire attack as “self-defense.” According to the 17-year-old, he took such a drastic step to “defend” himself as Austin had grabbed him first. As of now, Karmelo Anthony has been charged with murder, along with a bond set at $1 million.

Gone too soon
“I’m not at that point to forgive and forget, but eventually I will.” Hunter Metcalf, Austin’s twin brother, pointed out during an interview with Fox News. Being right there on the scene, Hunter had to watch his brother pass away right in his arms. During the interview, Austin’s mother, Meghan Metcalf, made it clear that she was not ready to forgive. “I am so angry at that boy… It’s just not fair,” Meghan said.
