Is there a halftime show during the College Football Playoff championship game in 2025?

Tens of millions of people tune into the Super Bowl solely for the halftime show. With the College Football Playoff championship game on Monday, Jan. 20, fans want to know if they can expect a performance similar to the NFL’s premier halftime show.

Originally, it sounded like the halftime show would feature one of the best things about the sport: marching bands. This is the typical expectation for a college football game. The home team’s band usually performs a set. At neutral site games, sometimes both bands get to play. Monday’s national championship could still feature Ohio State and Notre Dame’s marching bands, but there was a late announcement for the halftime entertainment.

Monday morning, ESPN and Travis Scott both posted that the rapper would be included in the halftime show, with Scott debuting a new song, “4×4.”

Here is everything you need to know about the 2025 CFP national championship halftime show.

Is there a halftime show during the College Football Playoff championship game?

Yes, but it will take on a different feel than a typical halftime show fans are accustomed to watching during Super Bowls and other big events. In college football, there is a long-standing tradition that the school’s marching bands perform during halftime.

Both Notre Dame and Ohio State were recognized for having one of the eight standout marching bands on U.S. News and World Report. It is expected both will be involved.

However, the headliner for the show is rumored to be rapper Travis Scott. He will debut a new song, “4×4.”

ESPN teased the surprise appearance as part of a press release on Jan. 16:

“Halftime of ESPN’s presentation features a special guest who is going to make an unforgettable appearance. Fans won’t want to miss this.”

Scott has been a part of a football halftime show in the past. He was a guest for Maroon 5’s Super Bowl halftime show in 2019. It started with a tribute to ‘Spongebob Squarepants’ and the iconic “Sweet Victory” show from the cartoon. That then morphed into Scott’s ‘Sicko Mode.’

He used marching bands during that halftime show and could feature Ohio State and Notre Dame’s marching bands again on Monday night.

It’s unclear whether Scott will perform on stage at Mercedes-Benz Stadium or if the performance was recorded off-site.

Before kickoff, Grammy-award winner Coco Jones will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner.” She will accompany award-winning musician, composer, and arranger Adam Blackstone.

Before the National Anthem, the Spelman College Glee Club will perform “America the Beautiful.”

Why is Travis Scott performing during halftime?

Scott is performing during halftime to promote a new song, ‘4×4,’ and could soon release a new album. Scott’s last new album was Utopia, which was released in 2023. In 2024, he brought ‘Days Before Rodeo’ out of the vault and released three deluxe editions and a live version from Atlanta.

CFP championship game national anthem singer

Coco Jones will perform the national anthem. Her song ‘ICU’ won the 2024 Grammy for Best R&B Performance. It was also nominated for Best R&B Song, but it didn’t win. Jones was nominated for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song in 2025 for ‘Here We Go (Uh Oh)’. Musician Adam Blackstone will join Jones.

CFP championship pregame performers

In addition to the national anthem, the Spelman College Glee Club will perform “America the Beautiful.” Both marching bands may also get a chance to perform before kickoff amidst the pre-game festivities, but that could also be worked into Scott’s halftime performance.
