BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — The Indiana University men’s basketball team is among one of the most valuable college basketball teams in the country, according to a study published in The Wall Street Journal.
The study is an analysis from Ryan Brewer, an associate professor of finance at Indiana University Columbus.
Here’s a look at the top ten list of most valuable men’s college basketball programs based on “enterprise value” in dollars:
- 1. North Carolina – 378,000,000
- 2. Duke – 370,000,000
- 3. Indiana – 279,000,000
- 4. Ohio State – 262,000,000
- 5. Louisville – 260,000,000
- 6. Arizona – 257,000,000
- 7. Syracuse – 256,000,000
- 8. Illinois – 232,000,000
- 9. Kentucky – 223,000,000
- 10. Arkansas – 217,000,000
The analysis went on to say that IU’s cash flow is 12,902,000 and that its revenue is 34,000,000.
According to the Sports Business Journal, the “numbers are the ‘product of a regular study conducted by Brewer, who begins his research with a simple question: What would these teams be worth if they could be bought and sold like a pro sports team?’ He answers it by ‘studying revenues and cash flows while making financial projections about the team’s sustainability.’”
Meanwhile, an analysis also ranked a top ten list of the most valuable women’s college basketball programs based on “enterprise value” in dollars as well:

- 8. Miami – 57,000,000
- 9. USC – 57,000,000
- 10. Louisville – 55,000,000
The IU men’s basketball team is getting ready for its first season under new head coach Darian DeVries. DeVries was hired as the Hoosiers’ head coach in March.
“We want to build something that is sustainable for a long period of time, and we will do that by staying true to what this program is about,” DeVries said after being announced as head coach.
DeVries is currently in the process of building his roster ahead of the upcoming season. Most recently, IU received a commitment from former Sam Houston State guard Lamar Wilkerson.
