Jedd Fisch is pushing to expand Washington football’s recruiting footprint

Through its ups and downs, Washington has remained one of the strongest brands in college football on the West Coast. However, that hasn’t always translated to success on the recruiting trail for the Huskies.

After Jedd Fisch took the job following Kalen DeBoer’s departure for Alabama, he set out to change that and upgrade Washington’s sales pitch on a national level.

“When you walk in, it’s two logos, it’s the UW logo and the Big Ten logo,” he said on the Unafraid Show with George Wrightster. “When you get to walk in and on one sleeve it has that ‘B1G’ logo and then on your chest it has the W, there are a lot of people across the nation that want to play in the Big Ten and there are a lot of people across the nation that are familiar with Washington because 14 months ago, they were playing in the national championship.”

In his first season with the Huskies, he pulled in 247Sports’ No. 19 recruiting class on early signing day and is looking to improve on that in 2026. With seven players committed, Washington is currently sitting at No. 28 in the national rankings, and Fisch believes he can supplement his class outside of UW’s traditional West Coast footprint.

“You’re seeing people recognize the brand far more than a few years ago when it was regionalized. And then this past year, we played at Rutgers, at Indiana and they had Gameday there, we played at Iowa, we played Michigan at home. Oregon at their place when they were No. 1 in the country, so we had all this TV exposure where it doesn’t matter if you’re from New Jersey, Florida, or California, you’re now walking in with a logo that says, ‘Hey we can come there, we want to come play there, we want to be a part of it,’ and it makes it pretty special.”

That pitch has paid off for several prospects outside of Washington’s footprint so far, as the Huskies have set up official visits with four-star safety Chace Calicut from Texas, four-star wide receiver Mason James from Oklahoma, four-star defensive lineman Tyson Bacon from Alabama, and three-star tight end Landen Miree from Ohio.
