ESPN published its ranking of the top-10 running backs in the country for 2025 on Wednesday morning, and Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love is at the top of the list.
Love earned the top spot after leading Notre Dame all the way to the national title game last season. As a sophomore, he rushed for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns in 16 games even as he battled a knee injury late in the year. Love also contributed in the passing game, catching 28 balls for 237 yards and 2 more scores.
Love was particularly-efficient, too. He averaged nearly 7 yards per carry while splitting time in Notre Dame’s backfield with Jadarian Price.

Love, at 6 feet and 212 pounds, is as effective earning the tough yards, as evidenced by his tackle-breaking touchdown against Penn State in the College Football Playoff, as he is breaking big plays. He had eight touchdowns of 30 yards or longer last season. The Irish want to get him the ball even more in 2025, as Love has lined up some as a wide receiver during spring practice. He caught 28 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns in 2024.
Love beat out the likes of Nicholas Singleton, Kaytron Allen, Isaac Brown, Jamal Haynes and others for the No. 1 spot on ESPN’s list.
Despite entering the season as perhaps the nation’s best running back, the betting markets don’t have him high on the preseason Heisman Trophy odds board. Love is +5000 to win the Heisman at BetMGM, for example.
If Love has another 1,000-yard campaign, he would climb into the top-10 for career rushing yards in Notre Dame football history.
