Jey Uso has a college football background, much like many other members of the Anoa’i family who also went on to become WWE superstars.
Jey Uso has become one of the most captivating WWE superstars of all time. The YEET began his career in the global juggernaut as a tag team wrestler with his brother, Jimmy Uso, in 2010. However, before he stepped between the ropes, Jey also had a collegiate football background like many of his WWE family members like The Rock, Roman Reigns and his own brother Jimmy Uso. Much like it did to them, Jey also benefited from his background in football.
What was Jey Uso’s football background before joining WWE?
Jey and his brother Jimmy Uso, began their football careers during their high school days. The Usos played for the Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida. After completing high school, the Usos continued with their football careers in college. They played at the University of West Alabama where Jey Uso was a linebacker. He played from 2003 to 2005.
The football background possibly helped Jey Uso to adapt to the physical world of wrestling. It potentially assisted him in building speed, endurance, stamina, and unmatched athleticism, which has been evident in his in-ring style in WWE. Moreover, his football background possibly played a part in his wrestling training and earned him a WWE contract with his brother Jimmy Uso.
Jey Uso is set for one of the biggest opportunities of his WWE career at WrestleMania 41
Jey Uso kicked off 2025 in grand fashion after having a remarkable 2024. The YEET man outlasted 29 other WWE superstars in the Men’s Royal Rumble to win the match and earned himself a World Championship match at WrestleMania 41. He chose his arch-rival, Gunther, as his opponent for the World Heavyweight Championship. As the road to WrestleMania continued, Jey and Gunther had heated face-offs.
Moreover, it was the Ring General who has gained the upper hand over the leader of the YEET! Movement in the subsequent weeks. Gunther also left Jey’s brother, Jimmy Uso, covered in his own blood and had Jey Uso handcuffed to the rope to watch helplessly. The current top champion of RAW has been dominating Jey Uso since their match was made official. But Uso has bounced back from every move of his and is laser-focused on dethroning him at WrestleMania 41. So it will be interesting to see if he does that and wins his first World Championship in WWE.
