Jedd Fisch has given fans plenty of reason to buy stock in the Washington Huskies, even as they come off a 6-7 season in his first year at the helm.
From a promising young quarterback in Demond Williams Jr., to a top-flight defensive coordinator in Ryan Walters, plenty of returning talent on the roster, combined with a transfer portal class that addressed several needs to withstand the physicality of the Big Ten, the Huskies have an opportunity to take a big step forward in 2025.
247Sports’ Josh Pate is among those who are taking notice of what Fisch’s team can bring to the table in 2025, which starts with Williams’ potential.
“Demond Williams has real, real breakout quarterback potential, like star quarterback potential, maybe even a household name by year’s end,” Pate said on Josh Pate’s College Football Show in April. “They’ve got some big games, but it is a manageable schedule by Big Ten standards, and they’re a hot start candidate. If you look at their schedule, it’s not front-loaded.”
The Huskies open the season with Colorado State, UC Davis at home before they hit the road to take on Washington State in the non-conference slate before their first real test, the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes, who will come to Husky Stadium. Then, they travel to Maryland before Rutgers comes to Seattle, giving Fisch’s team a real opportunity to start the season off on the right note.
If the Huskies can get off to a hot start, they should be considered candidates to be one of the biggest risers in the Big Ten.
