JUCO transfer who committed to Missouri State basketball on Thursday changes mind

The Shamarrie Hugie era at Missouri State basketball lasted three days. The junior college basketball transfer who committed to Missouri State basketball on Thursday has changed his mind.

Hugie, a transfer from Cowley College (Kansas), rescinded his commitment to the Bears in a social media post on Sunday afternoon.

“After much thought, personal reflection and meaningful conversations with family members and mentors, I have made the difficult decision to respectfully rescind my verbal commitment to Missouri State,” Hugie posted.

Hugie is ranked as JUCORecruiting.com’s No. 67 player in the 2025 class. The Savannah, Georgia, native is coming off a season in which he averaged 14.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He was a 47.5% shooter from the field and 33% from beyond the arc.

Missouri State extended an offer to him on Tuesday, and he quickly accepted and then changed his mind. Tennessee Tech and Stephen F. Austin also extended him offers.

Hugie’s sudden departure gives the Bears a little more wiggle room, as they now have 13 committed players on the roster for the upcoming season. They received two commitments on Saturday, with North Dakota transfer Amar Kuljuhovic and Truman State transfer Kobi Williams announcing they are Springfield-bound.
