JuJu Watkins injury: USC women’s basketball star carried off court in NCAA Tournament game

JuJu Watkins, one of college basketball’s biggest stars, left her Women’s NCAA Tournament second-round game with an apparent injury Monday night in Los Angeles.

Watkins, the USC standout and Big Ten Player of the Year, was clutching her right knee after driving toward the basket midway through the second quarter against Mississippi State.

As she was fouled on the play, her right knee appeared to buckle and she collapsed to the floor.

Grimmacing in pain, Watkins had to be carried off the court by trainers and went immediately to the locker room.

Watkins, who is averaging 24.6 points and 7 rebounds this season, is also a contender for national player of the year.

Is JuJu Watkins hurt?

USC put out the following statement Monday night regarding Watkins injury:

“JuJu Watkins is being evaluated by USC Keck Medicine staff and will not return to competition in tonight’s NCAA Second Round game.”

USC (29-3) is the No. 1 seed in the Spokane Regional and one of the favorites to contend for the national championship.
