Jumbo Package: Alabama first round streak continues, another TE transfer added

Happy Friday, everyone. Apologies for the late post. Baseball and softball are both playing fairly bad Mizzou teams this weekend. Baseball took game one last night, and softball opens that series today.

Tonight will mark the second day of the NFL Draft, with the second and third rounds on tap. The Tide saw a ridiculous streak of first rounders continued last night as Tyler Booker and Jihaad Campbell both heard their names called.

No other program is close to Alabama’s 17 consecutive drafts with a first-round pick. The next closest is Ohio State with nine consecutive years.

The streak started in 2009 when the Cincinnati Bengals selected offensive lineman Andre Smith.

Booker spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide, first seeing game action as a freshman in 2022. Then he became a starter at guard in 2023 and that continued in 2024 when he became a team captain.

Booker also marks the first Alabama first-round pick for coach Kalen DeBoer; all of the previous years in the streak happened under Nick Saban.

Jalen Milroe wasn’t expected to go and didn’t, but he continues to be a popular topic.

“I hear kind of the same thing too, just potential first round, but I think there’s a reality that it might not be,” DeBoer said. “I know he’s going to plan on going to the draft…For a couple reasons, one, the experience, but two, he’s got a couple other teammates that he wants to support that will be there as well, so a tip of the cap to him there.”

Alabama will have two other former players in Green Bay for the event. Both offensive guard Tyler Booker and linebacker Jihaad Campbell could be first-round picks, and opted to attend in-person.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Round 3, No. 83 overall

The team that showed up in droves to Milroe’s Pro Day in Tuscaloosa, the Steelers will have to put in work if they want to get a swing at Milroe in the second round. The Steelers’ next pick is at No. 83 overall in the third round: the team’s only Day 2 pick.

Ty Simpson was at the draft to support his teammates.

There are two Alabama football quarterbacks in Green Bay at the 2025 NFL Draft. One is Jalen Milroe, who is hoping to hear his name called Thursday night. The other is the leader to be the Crimson Tide’s starter in 2025.

That’s Ty Simpson, who is not a draft prospect this year but is in the green room nonetheless.

Why? Simpson is supporting former teammates and good friends of his. He’s good pals with guard Tyler Booker and linebacker Jihaad Campbell, both of whom are also in the green room in Green Bay hoping to be selected in the first round of the draft.

Last, Alabama added yet another tight end.

Brody Dalton has decided on the next stop in his football tour around the state of Alabama.

First in Birmingham, then Troy and now Tuscaloosa. Dalton, a tight end, has decided to transfer to play for Alabama football, his manager Corey Williams told AL.com on Thursday night

Alabama also landed West Virginia tight end Jack Sammarco this week.

Dalton, a Fyffe native, began his collegiate career at UAB. He spent his freshman and redshirt freshman seasons with the Blazers. Then the 6-5, 250-pound tight end transferred to Troy, where he spent the past two seasons.

That’s about it for today. Have a great weekend.

Roll Tide.
