BATON ROUGE — There likely won’t be as impactful of a series for LSU baseball in terms of it postseason résumé and standing than facing Tennessee at home last weekend.
No. 2 LSU (36-9, 14-7 SEC) won games one on Friday night and three Sunday afternoon against the Vols to take the series at Alex Box Stadium and Jay Johnson’s team saw itself catapult up the college baseball polls to No. 2 behind Texas. It’s the first time the Tigers have been that high in the rankings in a few weeks.
And not only did the Tennessee series win cause a bump in LSU’s standings in the polls, but it also affects its current NCAA Tournament regional projections as well.
LSU is now in a tie for second in the SEC race with Arkansas, who it’ll play at home next weekend. Where are the Tigers in the latest NCAA regional projections?
LSU baseball NCAA regional projections
The series victory over the Volunteers, the reigning NCAA champions, carries a lot of weight for LSU.
Both Baseball American and On3 each have the Tigers predicted at the national No. 3 seed in the NCAA College Baseball Tournament, which would mean it would host both the regional and super regional round should they advance to the second weekend of the tournament.
The current seeding suggests that there is a little breathing room for LSU in the top eight national seeds, who host both of the first two rounds, after taking two games against Tennessee.
