LSU baseball petered out of the SEC Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Ole Miss limited the Tigers to just two hits as Jay Johnson’s team was shutout for the first time all season in a 2-0 defeat in a conference tournament semifinal.
The Tigers (43-14) were the nation’s consensus No. 1 ranked team in the major college baseball polls and beat Texas A&M, 4-3, in the SEC quarterfinals Friday night.
But a win over a team that had to win the league tournament to have any shot at making the NCAA Tournament isn’t much of a resume bolstering victory for LSU.
Was there any affect on LSU’s perception as it wrapped up play in the SEC Tournament a day ahead of Selection Monday? Let’s look at the latest NCAA regional projections.
LSU baseball NCAA regional projections
There is synergy among the national college baseball pundits on where the Tigers are projected to land in the 64-team NCAA Tournament bracket. LSU should feel comfortable with its chances of hosting both regionals and super regionals.
In two of the three outlets we look at each week for this exercise, LSU moved up one and two spots despite an uninspiring SEC Tournament performance.
D1 Baseball slid the Tigers from No. 7 to No. 5 in its latest predictions Saturday night. On3 moved LSU up one spot Sunday morning to No. 5.
Baseball America had the Tigers at No. 5 before the SEC Tournament and that’s where it has them Sunday.
Here are the regional seeding projections, all of which have LSU hosting a regional and in position to host a subregional:
Baseball America: No. 5 national seed LSU 2. North Carolina State 3. Tulane 4. Miami-Ohio; Matched up with No. 12 Oregon regional.
On3: No. 5 national seed LSU 2. Duke 3. East Tennessee State 4. North Dakota State; Matched up with No. 12 Tennessee regional
D1 Baseball: No. 5 national seed LSU 2. Dallas Baptist 3. Miami 4. Wright State; Matched up with No. 12 Florida State regional
