BATON ROUGE — This time of the year, getting a sense of where most college baseball team stand in terms of the postseason can be a chore.
One week your stock is rising, the next your favorite team is tumbling.
That can be said for LSU baseball at the moment. The disappointing the series loss at Texas A&M last weekend wasn’t much of a blip to college baseball poll voters. In most cases, the Tigers (38-11, 15-9 SEC) only fell two spots to No. 4.
But for some NCAA Tournament regional prognosticators, losing two games to the Aggies was a mark on their postseason portfolio.
Here is what the latest projections suggest for Jay Johnson and LSU team and what work may be left to be done.
LSU baseball NCAA regional projections
One week removed from pundits boosting the Tigers to the No. 2 or No. 3 overall seed after they won the Tennessee series, the A&M series loss has sent them back down to earth for some.
In fact, this week’s projections are varied for the Tigers.
D1 Baseball only dropped LSU down two spots to the No. 4 overall spot in the NCAA College Baseball Tournament. After that, the scene gets murkier.
Baseball America bumped LSU down to No. 6 while On3, who has been one of the national publications that highest on the Tigers for much of this season, had the Tigers stumbling all of the way out of the top 8 national seeding to No. 9, which would mean LSU would host the regional round but would travel for super regionals if it advanced.
The latest NCAA regional projections suggest that this weekend’s series at Alex Box Stadium with No. 2 Arkansas (40-9, 17-7 SEC) is a massive one for LSU and its postseason outlook.
D1 Baseball: No. 4 national seed LSU 2. Miami 3. Southeastern Louisiana 4. Central Connecticut; Matched up with No. 13 Oregon regional
