Comment: Last month, 247Sports scouting director Andrew Ivins called this “the deepest offensive line in the country.” That’s remarkable commentary for a group that was considered a roster liability when Phil Trautwein took the job in 2020. Arguably working with his best collection of pieces so far, how will he put the puzzle together in 2025?
Sal Wormley, a three-year starter at right guard, is the only two-deep departure. Beyond veteran backups, the Nittany Lions feature six linemen who started at least five games last season and there’s tremendous confidence in Trautwein’s ability to yet again implement effective rotations. This group is coming off a campaign in which PSU led all Big Ten teams in rushing and finished top-25 nationally in sacks allowed for a second straight season after losing three draft picks.
The current stock for the position room is as high as it’s ever been under James Franklin, and has some looking back approximately 30 years for the last comparable Penn State O-line unit. Team captain Nick Dawkins remains at center, early ESPN 2025 All-American Vega Ioane returns at left guard, and left tackle Drew Shelton is as experienced as anyone in the trenches. Meanwhile, Wisconsin transfer Nolan Rucci really impressed during postseason play in place of injured right tackle Anthony Donkoh, who remains a promising talent while within his recovery process.
