Arkansas 5, LSU 3 — Bottom 9th Inning

Cole Gibler struck out pinch hitter John Pearson to start the ninth inning.

Derek Curiel reached with an infield single and advanced to second base on a throwing error by Reese Robinett, who threw wide of Gibler covering the bag.

Gibler then walked Ethan Frey to put the tying run on base with 1 out.

Christian Foutch is up in Arkansas’ bullpen.

Arkansas 5, LSU 3 — Middle 9th Inning

Reese Robinett singled and Brent Iredale doubled in consecutive 1-out at-bats, both on 100 mph fastballs from Chase Shores.

LSU went to the bullpen for Jacob Mayers and he allowed a 2-run single by Justin Thomas to put the Razorbacks ahead again.

Thomas stole second and went to third on a throwing error, but he was stranded there when Wehiwa Aloy struck out.

Cole Gibler, the freshman left-hander, will come on to pitch the ninth.

Arkansas 3, LSU 3 — End 8th Inning

Jared Jones blasted a 398-foot home run to right-center field to tie the game on the first pitch he saw from Gabe Gaeckle.

The 2-out hit was Jones’ second homer this week in Omaha.

Josh Pearson followed with a single and Gaeckle walked Jake Brown on a 3-2 miss. He went to 3-2 again against Daniel Dickinson, but blew a 98 mph fastball past him to strand 2 base runners.

Both bullpens are busy. Arkansas will send Kuhio Aloy, Reese Robinett and Brent Iredale to the plate in the ninth against Chase Shores.

Arkansas 3, LSU 2 — Middle 8th Inning

Arkansas’ first 5 batters reached in the eighth and the Razorbacks took the lead again.

Justin Thomas led off with a single. He was out on a fielder’s choice groundball by Charles Davalan.

Wehiwa Aloy hit a 2-strike single and Logan Maxwell was hit by a pitch. Ryder Helfrick hit into a fielder’s choice to score the tying run and an error by first baseman Jared Jones allowed Aloy to score the go-ahead run.

LSU challenged Maxwell’s slide into second base but replay found it was clean.

Cam Kozeal grounded out to strand a base runner.

Gabe Gaeckle is back to pitch the eighth for the Razorbacks.

LSU 2, Arkansas 1 — End 7th Inning

Gabe Gaeckle worked around a leadoff double by Daniel Dickinson in the seventh.

Michael Braswell popped a bunt attempt to catcher Ryder Helfrick for the first out, then Gaeckle struck out Derek Curiel looking at a 96 mph fastball and Ethan Frey swinging at 97.

This feels like the best scoring chance remaining for Arkansas in the eighth. After Justin Thomas leads off, the lineup will turn over to Charles Davalan and Wehiwa Aloy against Chase Shores.

LSU 2, Arkansas 1 — Middle 7th Inning

After Kuhio Aloy grounded out to shortstop for the first out, LSU went back to the bullpen for one of its big guns, right-hander Chase Shores.

Reese Robinett and Brent Iredale both struck out against him as he mixed an 88-90 mph splitter with a fastball that touched 101.

Gabe Gaeckle will return to pitch the seventh for the Razorbacks.

LSU 2, Arkansas 1 — End 6th Inning

LSU has taken the lead after a leadoff double by Ethan Frey. Landon Beidelschies hit Steven Milam in the foot in the next at-bat.

Gabe Gaeckle, who threw 90 pitches over 6 innings against LSU last Saturday, replaced Beidelschies.

Luis Hernandez hit a sac bunt to move the runners before striking out Jared Jones for the second out. Arkansas intentionally walked Jose Pearson to set up a right-right matchup, but LSU countered with left-handed pinch hitter Jake Brown.

His 2-run single to left field scored Frey and Milam. The Tigers tried a delayed double steal to score Pearson, but Cam Kozeal was able to run down Brown just before Pearson crossed the plate. The call was upheld after a replay review.

Chase Shores is up for LSU in the bullpen. He has pitched twice in Omaha, including 11 pitches yesterday.

Arkansas 1, LSU 0 — Middle 6th Inning

Logan Maxwell’s shift-beating single to the left side on a 1-1 pitch by Zac Cowan prompted a pitching change.

Jaden Noot, a right-hander, got Ryder Helfrick to fly out to the warning track in right for the second out. Logan Maxwell stole second base went to third on a wild pitch, but Cam Kozeal struck out swinging at a 95 mph fastball to strand him there.

Arkansas 1, LSU 0 — End 5th Inning

Landon Beidelschies continues to deal with a 1-2-3 fifth inning that included a groundout by Daniel Dickinson and strikeouts by Michael Braswell swinging and Derek Curiel looking.

Beidelschies has 9 strikeouts without a traditional walk through 5 innings. There was an intentional walk in the second inning. He has thrown 51 of 75 pitches for strikes.

Arkansas 1, LSU 0 — Middle 5th Inning

Zac Cowan has settled in and is retiring Arkansas batters quickly.

Brent Iredale, Justin Thomas and Charles Davalan all grounded out during a 10-pitch fifth. After throwing 40 pitches over the first and second innings, Cowan has thrown 36 since the start of the third.

Arkansas 1, LSU 0 — End 4th Inning

Landon Beidelschies has thrown 4 scoreless innings for the Razorbacks.

He worked around a leadoff hit batsman in the fourth. He struck out Jared Jones swinging at a fastball, got Josh Pearson to fly out to left and struck out Chris Stanfield looking at a fastball.

Beidelschies’ pitch count is at 62. Cole Gibler has been up in the bullpen for the Razorbacks.

Arkansas 1, LSU 0 — Middle 4th Inning

Ryder Helfrick led off the fourth with a 417-foot home run to center field on the first pitch he saw from Zac Cowan.

Helfrick turned on a breaking pitch with a 108 mph exit velocity for his 15th home run this season.

Cowan bounced back to strike out Cam Kozeal and Kuhio Aloy looking before an inning-ending fly out by Reese Robinett. It was another relatively quick inning for Cowan, 13 pitches.

He has thrown 66 pitches today, which is a season high. He threw 60 at Oklahoma on April 5.

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — End 3rd Inning

Landon Beidelschies struck out the top of the LSU order on third-strike breaking pitches in the third inning.

All 5 of his strikeouts have included third-strike off-speed stuff. He is pitching as well as we’ve seen from him in a couple of months.

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — Middle 3rd Inning

The third was a disappointing inning for the Razorbacks, whose top third of the order went 1-2-3 in 13 pitches against Zac Cowan.

Charles Davalan lined out to first, Wehiwa Aloy struck out and Logan Maxwell grounded out to shortstop.

Cowan threw 40 pitches through the first couple of innings, but that quick one allowed the relievers to sit back down for the time being.

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — End 2nd Inning

LSU stranded a pair of runners in the second inning when Landon Beidelschies struck out Michael Braswell with an off-speed pitch.

Jared Jones led off the inning with a single. It appeared Josh Pearson had bounced into a double play the next at-bat, but he beat Cam Kozeal’s throw to first base.

After Chris Stanfield hit a dribbler in front of the plate for the second out, Daniel Dickinson was intentionally walked to get to the 9-hole hitter Braswell. He got ahead 2-1 but swung through consecutive breaking balls.

Beidelschies has been efficient with 20 of 29 pitches for strikes.

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — Middle 2nd Inning

Cam Kozeal led off with a single and Brent Iredale reached on catcher’s interference with 2 outs. Justin Thomas hit into a 6-4 fielder’s choice to end the inning.

Zac Cowan has thrown 40 pitches through the second inning for LSU. Jaden Noot is up in the Tigers’ bullpen.

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — End 1st Inning

Derek Curiel doubled to lead off the inning, but Landon Beidelschies worked around it by retiring Ethan Frey on a pop up to second, Steven Milam with a deep fly out to right and Luis Hernandez looking at a 1-2 breaking ball.

Beidelschies threw 12 pitches in the inning. His fastball velocity was 93-94 mph.

Arkansas 0, LSU 0 — Middle 1st Inning

Three Razorbacks went to full counts against Zac Cowan in the first inning, but he worked around Logan Maxwell’s 2-out single.

Shortstop Steven Milam made the play of the inning with a sliding stop and throw from the grass on a ball hit deep into the hole by Wehiwa Aloy.

Ryder Helfrick grounded out to third base to end the half inning.

Cowan threw 22 pitches in the inning.
