
All of the LIVE Updates from No. 1 Tennessee’s midweek matchup against ETSU.
The Tennessee Volunteers come into the week as the No. 1 overall team in the latest college baseball rankings. The Volunteers are undefeated on the season and have a weekend series against Alabama coming up, but they have to take care of business on Tuesday first.
Tennessee ranks first in the country for home runs hit with 50 on the season but East Tennessee State ranks tied for fourth with 45. A potential for an offensive baseball game between these two programs on Tuesday.
First Inning: 2-1 Vols
Top: Palmese flies out to left field for the first out of the game. Jacklin grounds out to second base. Miller singles to center field and advances to second on a fielding error by the center fielder. The misplay allows him to reach third base. Torres singles to left field, driving in Miller for an unearned run, making it 1-0 ETSU. Yakubinis flies out for out number three.
Bottom: Curley flies out to center field for the first out, but Kilen follows with a single up the middle to put a runner on base. Ensley reaches on a fielder’s choice to shortstop, but Kilen is out at second on the play. Fischer is hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second as Ensley moves up to second. Clark draws a walk, loading the bases. Chapman reaches on a fielding error by the second baseman, allowing Ensley and Fischer to score unearned runs while Clark moves up to second. It is now 2-1 Vols. Peebles flies out to end the inning.
Second Inning: 2-2 tie
Top: Gallagher popped up for the first out, and then Little struck out. Curless launches a solo home run to right field, making it 2-2. Montesano strikes out for out number three.
Bottom: Bargo strikes out swinging. Antigua lines out to second base for the second out of the inning, and Jones takes the mound, replacing McCarley. Curley grounds out to end the inning.
Third Inning: 4-2 ETSU
Top: Crabtree enters the game as the new pitcher, replacing Sharp. Palmese walks. Jacklin reaches on a fielder’s choice to the pitcher, with J. Palmese being out at second on the play. Miller hits a two-run homer down the left-field line, bringing Jacklin home. Hunley enters the game as the new pitcher, replacing Crabtree. Torres struck out looking and Yakubinis lined out for out number three.
Bottom: Kilen grounds out to shortstop for the first out, and Ensley follows with a single through the left side to put a runner on base. Fischer flies out at the warning track. Frederick takes the mound, replacing Jones. Clark flies out to end the inning.
Fourth Inning: Still 4-2 after four
Top: Gallagher draws a walk, and Little is hit by a pitch. Behnke takes the mound, replacing Hunley. Curless flies out to left field, but Gallagher advances to third on the play. Montesano grounds into a double play, ending the top of the inning.
Bottom: Chapman grounds out to first base for the first out. Peebles rips a double down the left-field line, putting a runner in scoring position. Bargo flies out for the second out. Antigua strikes out swinging, and the Vols waste an opportunity.
Fifth Inning: Kilen makes it 4-3
Top: Palmese grounds out to third base. Jacklin singles with a bunt and Miller walks. Torres flies out to right field for out number two. Yakubinis grounded out to end the top of the inning.
Bottom: Curley strikes out. Kilen homers to left center field to cut into the lead to 4-3. Ensley is out at first on a 3-1 groundout to the pitcher, and Fischer is hit by a pitch, putting a runner on first. Clark strikes out swinging to end the inning.
Sixth Inning: Still 4-3
Top: Thacker takes the mound, replacing Behnke as the new pitcher. Gallagher strikes out swinging, and Little strikes out looking. Curless walks to put a runner on base. Krenzel takes the mound, replacing Thacker. Montesano grounds out to third base for the final out of the inning.
Bottom: Chapman pops up to the pitcher for the first out, Peebles grounds out to second base for the second out, and Bargo strikes out swinging to end the inning.
Seventh Inning: Tie game at 4-4
Top: Palmese singles to shortstop. Jacklin grounds out to second base, but Palmese advances to second on the play. Miller singles to shortstop, putting runners on the corners with Palmese advancing to third. Torres grounds into a double play, with the ball going from second to shortstop to first, ending the inning.
Bottom: Abernathy draws a walk after a long at-bat, putting a runner on first with no outs. Curley pops up to second base for the final out, and Ronne takes the mound, replacing Frederick. Kilen draws a walk, putting runners on first and second, with Abernathy advancing. Ensley doubles to left field, driving in Abernathy to tie the game while Kilen advances to third. Fischer strikes out, looking. Clark walks. Crumbley takes the mound, replacing Ronne. Chapman grounds out unassisted to first base to end the inning.
Eighth Inning:
Top: Yakubinis strikes out looking for the first out, Gallagher flies out to center field for the second out, and Little strikes out swinging to end the top of the inning.
Bottom: Peebles walks. Marin reaches on a fielder’s choice to third base, with Peebles being out at second on the play. Eaton takes the mound, replacing Crumbley. Curley draws a walk after a full count, loading the bases with Abernathy on second and Marin on third.
