Louisville Baseball Vs. Arizona Score & Live Updates At College Showdown

The Arizona baseball team is headed to a new conference in 2025, and a strong start to the new campaign would’ve been a nice warning to the members of the Big 12 that the Wildcats are on the way.

Unfortunately, Arizona’s season opener didn’t go as hoped, and the No. 21 Wildcats were upset by Ole Miss on the first day of the 2025 Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

There’s no doubt that the rest of the weekend in the Lone Star State will be about urgency and redemption, though a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference teams will be standing in the way.

After a brunch battle with No. 15 Clemson Saturday morning, the Wildcats will end their trip against Louisville on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Eastern.

The Shriners Children’s College Showdown again is being held at Globe Life Field, home of the world champion Texas Rangers, as part of three exciting weekends of college baseball in Texas.

The schedule includes the Shriners Children’s College Showdown (Feb. 14-16), Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota Weekend 2 (Feb. 21-23) and Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota Weekend 3 (Feb. 28-March 2).

There also will be midweek games on Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5.

Freshman southpaw Mason Russell takes the mound for Arizona. He’s the Wildcats’ sixth pitcher of the day. 

Louisville Sends New Pitcher To Mound In Seventh Inning

Indiana State transfer Brennyn Cutts comes on to pitch for Louisville. 

The senior right-hander faces four Arizona hitters and retires three, with a two-out walk.

Louisville leads 8-1 after seven innings.

Louisville Makes Pitching Change In Bottom Of Fifth Inning

Michael leaves the game for Louisville. In 4 2/3 innings, he gave up one run on one hit (a first-inning home run), striking out five and walking three.

Sophomore left-hander Colton Hartman comes on to pitch with runners on first and second and two outs.

Louisville leads 8-1.

Moore strikes out to end the inning after Louisville scores eight runs.

Arizona Makes Two Pitching Changes With Two Outs In Fifth Inning

Senior left-hander Eric Orloff comes on to pitch for Arizona.

There’s a runner on third and two outs.

Louisville leads 7-1.

Orloff starts by hitting Davis and walking Neighbors. The Cardinals have the bases loaded with two outs.

Orloff walks Alex Alicea to score King. Louisville leads 8-1.

That means a new pitcher for Arizona. Junior right-hander Tony Pluta comes on to pitch. He’s the third pitcher of the inning.

Louisville Piling It On At Globe Life Field, Cardinals Lead 7-1

Junior C/1B Matt Klein singles to right field, scoring Moore. Louisville up 3-1.

Junior infielder Jake Munroe hits a Hilker slider up the middle to score Rose. Louisville up 4-1.

Senior Garret Pike adds a two-out single to right field to score Klein. Louisville up 5-1.

The Cardinals have eight hits – all singles. 

With runners on first and third and two outs, senior Eddie King Jr. triples to right field, scoring Munroe and Pike.

Moore delivers again for Louisville, singling up the middle to score Kamau Neighbors and put the Cardinals ahead 2-1.

A walk, a wild pitch, a single and a throwing error allow Louisville to tie the game. 

Freshman Tague Davis drew the walk. He scored the run.

Arizona Makes Pitching Change For Fifth Inning Against UofL Baseball

Junior right-hander Michael Hilker Jr., a transfer from Wisconsin-Whitewater, comes on to pitch for Arizona. 

Bailey was brilliant, going four innings. He only threw 53 pitches, giving up three hits and no runs. He struck out five. He threw 40 strikes. 

Arizona leads 1-0.

Fourth Inning Uneventful For Louisville And Arizona Baseball

The score remains 1-0 (Arizona advantage) after four innings at Globe Life Field. 

Junior outfielder Aaron Walton is caught stealing to end the Arizona half of the inning.

The Arizona Wildcats are the only one of the six teams without a win so far this weekend in Arlington. 

Cardinals Come Alive In Third Inning But Don’t Score

Sophomore Lucas Moore, the hero Friday against Texas, singles in the third inning against Arizona and steals second, but he’s stranded there. 

Louisville has left three runners on base so far in the contest. 

UofL Throwing Heat At Arizona In Second Inning At Globe Life Field

Michael has settled in for Louisville and gets three strikeouts to shut down Arizona in the bottom of the second inning.

However, the Wildcats lead 1-0.

An uneventful second inning leaves Louisville still training Arizona 1-0.

After losses to Ole Miss and No. 15 Clemson to start the 2025 season, the Arizona Wildcats are up before the sun and headed to Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, looking to finish strong against Louisville.

Where Is The 2025 College Baseball Showdown?

The Shriners Children’s College Showdown and two-weekend Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and feature some of the top teams in the nation. 

The 2025 season will mark the fifth consecutive year of college baseball at Globe Life Field – home of the world champion Texas Rangers – and the second straight year the action will span three weekends. 

When Is The College Baseball Showdown?

The first weekend of the festivities, the Shriners Children’s College Showdown, will begin on Friday, Feb. 14 and will run through Feb. 16. 

The following two weeks of action, the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, will take place Feb. 21-23 and Feb. 28-March 2.

To keep the momentum going between the weekends, the series also will include four midweek games at Globe Life Field. Those contests will take place Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5.

About Louisville Baseball

The Southeastern Conference has turned into a dominant force in college baseball, but the ACC is close behind with standouts Virginia, North Carolina and Florida State all ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation. 

Louisville may be overshadowed by those powerful teams, but playing against top-tier talent should only help make the Cardinals better. 

Last year, they finished fourth among the seven teams in the ACC’s Atlantic Division. They were picked to finish ninth this year in the new-look 16-team conference.

Louisville’s overall record in 2024 was 32-24, which included a 16-14 mark in conference action. The Cardinals were eliminated from the ACC Baseball Championship with consecutive losses to Miami and Clemson. 

About Arizona Baseball

With the Pac-12 imploding, Arizona made sure to make one final statement before departing for the Big 12.

The Wildcats finished the 2024 campaign with a 36-23 overall record and 20-10 mark in their final year of Pac-12 competition. 

They won the Pac-12 regular-season title and went on to win the Pac-12 Tournament. The latter earned them the conference’s automatic bid to the Division I Baseball Championship. 

Despite the run of success, Arizona saw its fourth consecutive appearance in the 64-team national tournament end with consecutive losses to Grand Canyon and Dallas Baptist in the Tucson NCAA Regional.

Perhaps 2025 is meant to be greener pastures, new challenges and a new domain to conquer. 

Obviously, a season-opening loss is a knock at the team’s confidence, but losing to an SEC team is nothing to be ashamed about. After all, all of the SEC teams made the D1Baseball Preseason Top 25 Rankings or received votes. That’s impressive.
