Louisville basketball dominates ACC transfer portal rankings in offseason surge

Louisville basketball has dominated this offseason so far, as the Cardinals’ three transfer portal additions skyrocketed the Cards’ National Championship hopes. Louisville was bounced in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season, but it was clear that Louisville is making a comeback in the college basketball world.

Following their exit, Pat Kelsey made it clear that Louisville would go all-in on the transfer portal as the Cards’ were cleared to spend up to $10 million this offseason. Louisville isn’t done yet, as they still have to fill out the last few spots of their roster, but the Cardinals went quantity over quality and aced the transfer portal with their additions.

The ACC had a spectacular offseason, as Duke has the best odds to win the National Championship, and the Cardinals have the sixth-best odds to win the 2026 Title. Well, in recent news, 247Sports Grant Hughes put out his Top 10 players committed to ACC programs this offseason, and the Cardinals absolutely dominated this ranking.

Louisville earned commitments from one 5-star and two 4-star players this offseason, as the Cardinals’ three additions are all ranked among 247Sports’ top 23 transfer portal players.

The Cardinals had three of Hughes’ top four players committed to ACC programs this offseason, with the 5-star transfer Adrian Wooley taking the No. 1 spot, making him the best player to commit to an ACC program. Wooley is ranked as high as the ninth-best player to enter the portal and is ranked No. 11 according to 247Sports. The Kennesaw State transfer has tremendous upside as he is just a true freshman and is expected to be a key player for Louisville for many years.

“Wooley not-so-quietly enjoyed one of the best freshman seasons in college basketball, averaging 18.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 steals a game at Kennesaw State. Wooley is the No. 2-ranked combo guard in the transfer portal this offseason and is expected to be a major contributor at Louisville in 2025-26.”

Ryan Conwell then secured the third spot in these rankings, as the Xavier transfer is ranked as high as the 16th best player in the portal, and 247Sports ranks him as the 17th best. The sharpshooter recently was on the Field of 68 podcast and made it clear that the style of play Kelsey runs is a glaring reason why he chose the Cardinals over the Texas Longhorns. Conwell is expected to play multiple positions for Louisville and to be one of the Cardinals’ top scorers and leaders next season.

“Conwell reportedly had multiple seven-figure offers on the table out of the portal after averaging a team-best 16.5 points per game this past season at Xavier. The three-time transfer is set to join Louisville for the 2025-26 campaign after previous stops at Indiana State (2023-24) and South Florida (2022-23). The lethal shooter finished this past season with 20 or more points in five consecutive games, capping that stretch with a 38-point performance against Marquette in the Big East Tournament.”

Finally rounding out the top four is Isaac McKneely. The Virginia transfer is ranked as high as the 21st-best player to enter the transfer portal, with 247Sports ranking him as the 23rd-best player. McKneely is among the best 3-point shooters in the nation, as he has splashed the fifth-most 3’s in Virginia history. He shoots the ball at an exceptional split, and was a dream player for the Cardinals fans all offseason.

“McKneely is one of three top-25 transfer portal prospects to commit to Louisville this offseason, tied with St. John’s for the most in college basketball. He led Virginia in scoring at 14.4 points per game this past season and averaged 2.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. He ranked first in the ACC in 3-point percentage (42.1%) and second in made 3-pointers per game at 3.2. He earned All-ACC honorable mention honors for his efforts.”

The Cardinals absolutely dominated the offseason in the ACC. Louisville basketball’s three additions are three of the best four additions to the ACC and three of the best 21 transfers. Duke’s addition of Cedric Coward is the second-best addition to the ACC, according to Hughes. The Washington State transfer is ranked as the 13th-best player in the portal.

According to 247Sports, North Carolina’s offseason is the second-best in the ACC, as they are ranked No. 17, 14 spots behind the Cardinals. Louisville made it clear they are ready to compete for an ACC Title and a National Championship Title this offseason. Kelsey’s three additions will make one of the best backcourts in college basketball, as they will be joined by 5-star commit Mikel Brown Jr.
