Coverage during the game:
Welcome to the 111th season of Louisville basketball.
The Pat Kelsey era officially begins tonight, with the Cardinals hosting Morehead State at the KFC Yum! Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
This is the first meeting of an intrastate series dating back to 1932 since the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. The 13th-seeded Eagles upset fourth-seeded U of L in that game, 62-61, on Demonte Harper’s 3-pointer with 4.2 seconds remaining in regulation. Louisville has won 26 of the past 28 matchups.
Like the Cards, Morehead State has a new head coach in 2024-25: Jonathan Mattox, a former Murray State assistant who is back where his coaching journey began as a graduate manager in 2013. Only seven players from former coach Preston Spradlin’s final team, which reached March Madness after winning the Ohio Valley Conference’s regular-season and tournament titles, returned for another go-around.
Follow along below with live updates from the Yum! Center:
The Kelsey era begins with a convincing win.
Here’s a look at the final box score:
Kasean Pryor threw down a highlight-reel dunk on a fast break during the early going of the second half.
Here’s a look at it:
With 12:06 remaining in the second half, Louisville led Morehead State by 36 points, 62-26.
Here’s a look at the first-half box score:
James Scott leads the Cards with four points, followed by Terrence Edwards Jr. and Reyne Smith with three apiece.
Chucky Hepburn connected with James Scott for the first official points of the Kelsey era: an alley-oop on Louisville’s opening possession.

It’s on ACC Network Extra, which is available exclusively via livestream. Jody Demling (play-by-play) and Larry O’Bannon (analyst) will have the call.
If your cable or live TV streaming package includes ACC Network, you have access to ACC Network Extra. You can watch via ESPN.com/watch or the ESPN app after logging in with your cable or live TV streaming service credentials.

Paul Rogers (play-by-play) and Bob Valvano (analyst) will have the call on the Cardinal Sports Network (WLCL 93.9-FM and WGTK 970-AM in Louisville).
