  • Most of the Louisville baseball team visited a local children’s hospital before its elimination game against Oregon State.
  • The winner of the game will advance to play Coastal Carolina in the College World Series semifinals.

OMAHA, NE. — Less than 24 hours before a must-win second-round College World Series game against Oregon State, Louisville baseball loaded up a charter bus full of players and went to the local children’s hospital.

It was a completely voluntary opportunity that included most of the Cardinals’ team.

“There’s no pressure from the coaches,” U of L coach Dan McDonnell said. “I don’t have a list of who’s going and who’s not. Sometimes it’s better when it’s like that where it’s just authentic and who wants to go. And if you don’t want to go, nobody’s judging you, so I think that’s really cool.”

The Cardinals will undoubtedly gain more fans after their visit. The support will be needed and appreciated when they take on Oregon State at 2 p.m. today with the season on the line. The winner moves on to face Coastal Carolina in the CWS semifinals at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
